Mat has been playing guitar for nearly 17 years and has been teaching for the past 4 with great success. He was trained entirely in Salt Lake City, Utah primarily by local music guru Kim Driggs. He has also had lessons by Dylan Schor, Tully Cathey and J.D. Moffat who, among many other colaborations, was a member of the Ray Charles band for several years. Mat’s primary influences lie in the blues but he is trained and can teach, rock (all types), funk, soul, reggae, folk, country and beginning jazz. Mat’s lessons are focused on playing music but the lessons also of course include, technique, music theory and other elements of guitar such as gear selection and use and songwriting. Mat’s current musical ventures are limited to Shades Of Gray a project he started along with Shade’s bass player Nathan Simpson in the winter of 2003. The band has released one album and is currently gigging around the Salt Lake Valley. To contact Mat for a lesson please click the email link at the top of the page or feel free to call 801.598.2592
